Got a head start on the video watching on Lynda! A brief summary:
I haven't really used Illustrator, only for my digital classes. For the most part, Illustrator, Photoshop, and other painting programs are very similar to one another in terms of command keys as well as the things each can do. With these videos, they were kind of a re-introduction to a program I am more or less familiar with. Re-learning and being re-introduced isn't a bad thing, however! The one thing I didn't realize was the difference between Vector art and Raster based pixels- or more so, the correct terms for pixel art. Illustrator can come in handy with art in terms of being completely clear and crisp, while Photoshop and other art programs will always have the pixel based remains. Something to keep in mind, I think! In the following videos, I was given a brief tour of Illustrator- where several of the tools were, how to hide and find certain information on the bottom of Illustrator, and also how exactly to create guidelines and use the ruler and graph options. A lot of other things were mostly to refresh the mind- like how to re size, rotate, and locking and hiding whatever artwork is on the current art board layer.

Week 1B
Today's class was very informational. We reviewed the desktop of a Mac, which to be fair I am very new to. I am a Windows user and have never owned a Mac computer or laptop before- so all of the keys are both similar but also completely different from Windows controls. We also went over the different types of formats and also bits. I found it very informational. I think- for a lot of us- we know what things are like .pdf and .psd and all of those. However, we do not know the proper terms for what each letter stands for.
It's simple and basic, but at the same time I had to think about it for the right word for each letter compared to just knowing and associating the file format. Watching the video about Adobe Illustrators origins was very cool. I was a lot more familiar with using AI near the end of class.
I guess I just find it strange that we as designers tend to do these things either by instinct or we just figure it out- so having to do things step by step and having to think about them can be a bit different also.
We ended class today with a little exercise with black and white circles in Illustrator.

I never was one for staying within the lines.

Week 1A
Introduced to the Digital Theory and Skills. We went over the syllabus as well as filled out the Student Forms. It was a usual introduction first day so nothing big happened. I signed myself up for November 22nd, and need to take off work for that date too. This class looks like it will be really fun. I'm excited to learn and be introduced to CSS. I'm also nervous though as this isn't my field of digital art as I am more the actual digital art using drawing programs such as Photoshop and Paint Tool Sai.
Now alls I need to do is the Lynda listening exercises and also create a drop box account.
As of 8/26 I officially bought the Lynda use and now I just need to create the drop box account via free 2 gig. Sounds easy enough.
Final edit!! I signed up for everything and should be set for tomorrow. Woop!
